Creating a trip
Ready to start planning a trip? Trip planning is a series of decisions and coordination steps with other people. You usually don’t know every detail when you start. That’s why our trips have no required details. Unlike other travel tools, we’re adamant that you should be able to flexibly create a trip, without any decisions known upfront.
Create a Trip
- Either in the left-hand navigation bar, or at the top of your Trips page, click
Create a trip. - That’s it, your trip is now created!
- It has a default title of “Our next trip”, which you can edit by clicking on the title. Editing this title will also change the image.
Additional info related to Trips
- Trips have a Title, Dates and Destination. This info is shown in the Trip header area. It also has a list of Participants.
- Title - This is set by default to “Our next trip”. Edit the title by clicking on the text and saving your changes. When you change the title, it will also change the default image. Enjoy the randomised images that come as a result 😊
- Dates - When you have dates in mind, click on
Add your datesin the trip header, and use the date picker to choose the start and end dates of your trip. You can change this at any time. You can also choose toSet datesin the three-dot spillover menu in the top right of the trip header. - Destination - Just like Dates, you can add a Destination by clicking
Add your destinationin the trip header or choosing toSet destinationin the spillover menu. Click and search for a destination, and select the best option. Once you do so, the map adjust its focus. You can change this at any time. - The Participants are anyone who is going on or can see the whole Trip if you invite them at the Trip level; whereas if you add them at the Block level they can only see that Block. - Each Trip consists of 3 sub-sections: Plan, Polls and Places. Each of these sections has a separate help guide.
- The Plan is the the heart of the trip and consists of Days and Blocks. It’s the flexible itinerary meant to indicate the what, when, and who of your trip plan. Read more about building your plan at Building your trip plan
- Polls are flexible ways of asking the participants a question to help you make a decision. It could be about anything, include dates, location, things to do, what to eat, etc. Learn more at Creating & sharing polls
- Places are currently a consolidation of all locations in the Trip (which we gather from locations set on your Blocks). It's also a place that you can search for potential places and 'save' them as options.
Lot’s more to come, but hopefully this gives you a good overview of the trip. Remember, it’s intended to be flexible and for now has no real ‘intelligence’ to it. Once we see how you use it and what features you want, we will begin to add more and more. But fundamentally, the Trip is the core of the application, and it starts from the moment you have the idea of a trip.
