About blocks

As discussed in Building your trip plan, Blocks have 3 distinct types. Our aim was to build these with the minimum amount of specificity. For example, instead of a separate Block type for Flights and Trains, we chose instead to make a Transit Block.

Below are more details on the Block types we currently have available:

  • Transit Blocks are intended to indicate travelling from Location A to Location B. We explicitly left them as flexible and without required fields (which is true about all fields on on blocks). We want to be able to let you use them how you wish.
    • For example, if 4 people were flying to one city from 4 different cities, you may want to put 4 blocks for transit, or you might want to just put one, put in the Arrival city/airport and tell everyone to arrive by a certain date/time. Alternatively, you may want to allow everyone to be more prescriptive with their plans where each person puts in a block for his/her own transit. It’s up to you! Like with all Location fields, you’ll notice that the location is a Google location search.
  • Lodging Blocks are intended to show anything that has “Check-in/check-out” type of information. The obvious use case is for hotels, but could also be used for things like rental cars or luggage storage. Setting the location will create a pin on the map. The lodging block location also creates an entry in the Places sub-section, so you can view this Place outside of the Plan.
  • Event Blocks are very similar to Location Blocks except they have a single date with a start/end time. Event blocks are very generic, and will likely be used for meetings, dinners, activities, or anything with a defined start/end time. Like lodging blocks, event blocks create a pin on the map and card in the Places sub-section.
